Good to know
- Mississippi law does not require continuing education to renew or maintain an RN or LPN license; each nurse is responsible for maintaining competency in their own field of practice. [1]
- The Board's continuing education rule (30 Miss. Admin. Code, Part 2815) was repealed in February 2020. [1]
- A nurse who has not practised nursing (for pay, or performing nursing functions as a volunteer) in the five years before renewal must submit evidence of continuing basic nursing competency: a Board-approved reorientation program, 20 contact hours of CE directly related to nursing practice within the previous two years, or at least 3 semester hours of nursing credit within the previous two years. [1]
- For that CE option, courses (including online courses) must be approved, accredited, provided or offered by a recognized credentialing agency; the Board names the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as such an agency. [1]
- Advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) have separate requirements, including at least 5 contact hours of CE on controlled substances each state certification period. [1]
